How the field moved
Strength by age and bodyweight
Bodyweight and score, within a lifter
When the same woman competed again within six months at a bodyweight more than 2 kg different, their total moved 0.34% for each 1% of bodyweight (95% interval 0.30–0.38; 16,050 pairs of results from 10,487 women). GL treats 0.60% as neutral at 65.7 kg, so within a lifter GL scores tended to fall as bodyweight rose.
When the same man competed again within six months at a bodyweight more than 2 kg different, their total moved 0.56% for each 1% of bodyweight (95% interval 0.51–0.62; 33,245 pairs of results from 22,238 men). GL treats 0.50% as neutral at 85.6 kg, so within a lifter GL scores tended to rise with bodyweight.
An association within the same lifters over months, where weight cuts and training blocks both play a part. It says how scores moved when a lifter’s own bodyweight changed, not whether GL is fair between weight classes.
